Andre Murnieks: 2016-17 Notre Dame App Challenge

Assistant Professor of Visual Communication Design, Andre Murnieks, is participating as a judge and mentor for the 2016-17 Notre Dame App Challenge at the invitation of John Affleck-Graves, Executive Vice President of the University. The App Challenge promotes the University’s mission to “heal, unify, and enlighten,” and spans two semesters concluding in late March of 2017. Design graduate students M. Moore (Visual Communication Design) and R. Forsyth (Industrial Design) progressed to the final round.

Nicole Woods: The Newberry Library & ISLA Grant

Assistant Professor of Art History, Nicole Woods, presented a chapter of her current book project at The Newberry Library, Chicago. Woods also received a Large Research and Creative Works Grant from ISLA to support late-stage archival research related to her book, plus two articles she is completing.

Jason Lahr: ISLA Grant & Zuckerman Museum of Art

Assistant Professor of Painting Jason Lahr received a Large Research and Creative Works Grant from ISLA to fund his upcoming solo exhibition Electric Funeral at The Painting Center in New York City, NY in March-April of 2017. Lahr’s painting False Start (2015) has been accepted into the permanent collection of the Zuckerman Museum of Art in suburban Atlanta, GA.

Martina Lopez: Visual Thinking Strategies & Fellowships Review Committee

Professor Martina Lopez’s artwork is being included on a website for a non-profit arts education organization, Visual Thinking Strategies, that teaches critical thinking skills through discussions of visual art for teachers and museum educators when working with Pre-Kindergarten - 8th grade curriculum. Lopez also served on the Art/Architecture/FTT 2017- 2018 Fellowships Review Committee for Notre Dame’s Institute for Advance Study.

Jean Dibble: Exhibitions & Book Collaboration

Professor Jean Dibble has work included in two exhibitions: MAPC Member Exhibition 2016 at the Carnegie Center for Art and History, New Albany, IN, and the Alice C Sabatini Gallery in Topeka, KS. In addition, Dibble is collaborating with poet John Matthias and critic Doug Archambeau on a book of Matthias' poetry. The book will be published and available in the spring of 2017.
