Please join me in congratulating John Traub, 2011 Industrial Design BFA candidate for being selected last night by a panel of eight outside professional jurors as Notre Dame's 2011 Industrial Designer's Society of America) Merit Award winner.

After a grueling deliberation by the judges, John was selected for the breadth and significance of his work combined with his very strong core ID skills.

John will represent Notre Dame at the IDSA Midwest Conference to be held in St. Louis next weekend April 1-2, where he will present his work in front of a crowd of over 500 regional professionals, educators and students. At that time, a Midwest Merit Award winner will be chosen from the fourteen area schools as the best student in the Midwest district and one of the five best students in the country. Notre Dame has an impressive track record, having won this prestigious honor three out of the last four years against powerhouse programs at UI-Urbana Champaign, Purdue University, UI-Chicago and Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.

We wish John the best of luck at the coming conference and congratulate him on his impressive achievements and the honor he brings to our university.
