Experimental Printmaking Transforms 3rd Floor

Author: Lonnie Atkinson

Students in Professor Jean Dibble's Experimental Printmaking class were recently assigned the task of designing a large scale cooperative installation using pre-printed patterned sheets to obtain their design objectives. What resulted was a transformation of the area between Printmaking and the Art Department office.

As part of the assignment, each student chose two patterns and carved them into a linoleum block. The class then took turns mounting each block into the letter presses and printed hundreds of sheets with two patterns on each sheet and in several different colors. After all the prints were made, the class was paired into groups, having to decide what they would do with the material.

Mary Kutemeier documented the results.
