Artistic Profile
Richard Gray is Associate Professor of Photography and Director of the Center for Creative Computing in the College of Arts and Letters. Gray’s research examines the relationship between photography, scientific imaging and human identity with an interest in the role new technologies play in redefining the contemporary self. His work explores the cultural evolution of scientific images and the influence they have on our understanding of what it means to be photographed. Gray has exhibited his photographs nationally and internationally for over twenty-five years. He teaches courses in photographic practice, studio lighting and contemporary issues. Gray recently served a one-year visiting professorship at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is past Chair of the national Society for Photographic Education (SPE), Cleveland, OH.
