Bio

Morton’s focus is on leveraging the power of human-centered design, cross-functional teams and diversity to drive creativity, ideation and innovation.  Building upon his first experiences generating new concepts for ‘endless play’ with the LEGO Group he has since created a vast array of innovative products and end-user experiences for globally recognized organizations and disruptive startups.

Prior to joining the University of Notre Dame, Morton served as a member of the global ideation and design leadership team at Newell Brands, a $14B organization that owns category-leading brands including Rubbermaid, Calphalon, Yankee Candle, Graco, and Mr. Coffee. As Director of Industrial Design, Morton leveraged marketing and consumer insights to lead the development of new ideas, products and experiences resulting in high revenue generating and category-defining products.  He was also instrumental in increasing effectiveness through the hands-on promotion of collaboration, creative culture of curiosity, and the implementation of new tools and methodologies.

Previously, Tim partnered with global clients as part of an international design consultancy in Austin, TX, and Chicago, IL and as an independent consultant in the UK, often at the intersection of people, technology and business, enabling clients to reach new markets.

Products and experiences developed under Tim’s direct leadership have been honored with accolades from multiple design institutions and industry-specific organizations including IDSA’s Industrial Design Excellence Award, ID Magazine Design Annual, Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award, iF Hannover, CES Innovation Awards, IDSA’s Industrial Design Excellence Award, ADEX, ISSA, and CEDIA.

Prior client partners have included Corning, Qualcomm, Dell, Novartis, Smiths Medical, LEGO, Flextronics, Blackberry, Kimberly Clark, Johnson Controls Inc.

In addition to teaching courses grounded in innovation and design thinking, Morton also actively maintains a professional consulting practice and industry presence collaborating in the area of innovation, ideation, and design thinking.
