Lecture Overview
David Plunkert, artist and illustrator for The New Yorker, will discuss the creative process of illustrating 19th-century horror classics with a modern sensibility. More specifically, he will discuss his recently published 200th anniversary illustrated edition of Frankenstein.
Book Signing
A book signing will take place in front of Rare Books and Special Collections a half hour before and after the lecture.

About the Author
David Plunkert is a graphic designer, illustrator, and a co-founder of Spur Design LLC in Baltimore Maryland. Many of his posters have been collected by the Library of Congress and have been exhibited worldwide. His magazine and newspaper illustrations have been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, The Society of Publication Designers, and have been awarded medals by The Society of Illustrators NY. He has taught graphic design and illustration at Shepherd University and Maryland Institute College of Art. He has extensively illustrated the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for Rockport Publishers. In 2018 his illustrated cover for The New Yorker entitled “Blowhard” was named “Magazine Cover of the Year” by The American Society of Magazine Editors.
