Firewood, Wood or Gods
"Alexander Lee is a Tahitian and American artist based in French-occupied Polynesia and the United States. Multidisciplinary in nature, his work explores the relationship between French colonialism, atomic testing in the Pacific, and how societal narratives are constructed. In his lecture, Lee will be walking us through some of his artworks — Te Atua Vahine mana ra O Pere (2017), Rā’au (2022), and E Toru Horue, E Toru Vehiatua (2024) — and discuss how art and alternative forms of storytelling can address issues of memory, commemoration, our built and natural environments, body politics, and futures."
