Dr. Caspar Pearson is the Director of Studies and Reader in Art History 1300-1700 at The Warburg Institute. His research focuses on the art and architecture of the Italian Renaissance, with an interest in urbanism and the relationship between artistic representation and political structures.

Leon Battista Alberti (1404–1472) was an Italian humanist, architect, and writer on Renaissance art theory. In his theoretical writings, Alberti outlined steps for architects to follow when designing buildings.
