Biography
Javier Espinosa was born and raised in Cholula, a town in the state of Puebla in south-central Mexico. His artistic research explores identity through the language of ceramics, drawing from his roots as a traditional Mexican Talavera craftsman and his lived experience as a contemporary artist in the United States. This dual perspective allows him to examine how personal and cultural traditions are transformed by changing social and geographic landscapes. He has presented at NCECA and other important venues with his project Herencia Means Heritage, which seeks to shed light on Mexican Talavera artisans who have been historically underrepresented. His work has been widely exhibited both in the United States and internationally.
