Course credit transfers from another school
I would like to take a course at another school. How can I transfer that course to Notre Dame and receive credit.
The transfer of course credit is determined by the deans in the Office of Undergraduate Studies in the College of Arts & Letters and by the Department of Art, Art History & Design. The department reserves the right not to approve transfer credit for courses. The student must first discuss the course with the deans in the Office of Undergraduate Studies before arranging a meeting with the Chairperson of the Department of Art, Art History & Design. The criteria for the Department of Art, Art History & Design’s pre-approval of transfer credit from another institution are as follows:
- the course must be pre-approved by the Chairperson of the Department of Art, Art History & Design
- courses must be taken at an accredited four-year university
- a summer course should be approximately six weeks in length
- the course must be taught in a department that is similar to the Department of Art, Art History & Design
- the student must produce: the course title and the number of credit hours assigned to the course
- a brief course description
- the instructor’s name and credentials
- a copy of the course syllabus
- the contact hours for the class (length of academic term, number of class meetings, duration of each meeting)
