Reception: Joseph Cruz at The Soap Factory

-

Location: The Soap Factory, 514 Second St SE Minneapolis, MN

University of Notre Dame Sculpture MFA student Joseph Cruz will be in a group show at THE SOAP FACTORY in Minneapolis during the month of February, with an opening reception on February 7, 7-11pm.

This exhibition is a collaboration between The Soap Factory and the Chicago Artists Coalition residency program.

The Party's Over is the culminating exhibition between the Chicago Artists Coalitions' BOLT Residency and The Soap Factory's resident artists, who partnered together in 2013 for the Midwest Artist Exchange, a yearly initiative that connects CAC's BOLT Residency with artistic communities in neighboring Midwest cities.

At its core, the initiative makes space for an exchange of knowledge and trends, to tap into the creative production within each community. Artists visit one another's cities to intimately experience the community through gallery talks, potlucks and behind the scenes tours. If the feeling is right and the artists are attraced to one another's honesty of thinking and aesthetics, they may agree to socially engage in the form of exhibitions. The Party's Over is one such exhibition. It completes the loop between the Chicago Artists Coalition and The Soap Factory and impresses upon us a mood of newness and possibility, as well as the question of "what's next?" for the artists.

The exhibition features new works in an expansive range of subject and media by Chicago artists Madeleine Bailey, Sarah and Joseph Belknap, Adebukola Bodunrin, Joseph G. Cruz, Helen Maurene Cooper, Laura Davis, Azadeh Gholizadeh, Jennifer Mills, Christopher Ottinger and Stacia Yeapanis. The Party's Over looks at the artists' emotional and formal tendencies to use humor, repetition, the revenant and physical space to emanate a curiosity for what's ahead now that the party has come to an end.
