Irish Art and Music in Conversation

-

Location: Snite Museum of Art (View on map )

Illustrating how one art form can enrich another, musicians Liz Carroll (All-Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion), Marty Fahey (piano and accordian), Clodagh Ryan (fiddle and piano), and Sean Ryan ‘95 (uilleann pipes, tin whistle, and flute) will provide musical reflections on six Irish paintings from the O’Brien Collection of Irish Art. The O’Brien Collection is a privately held collection that has lent four pieces to the exhibition ‘Looking at the Stars’: Irish Art at the University of Notre Dame. One painting on view in the exhibition, Hughie O’Donoghue’s Revolution Cottage (2015), will be the focus of one of the musicians’ musical interpretations. Shane Wagy and Addie Donaher, members of the Notre Dame Irish Dance Club, will make a special appearance.

These musical selections will take place in the entrance atrium to the Museum, before moving into the galleries for short personal reflections on pieces in the exhibition by Notre Dame students. This event is co-organized with the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and is free and open to all.
