The Department of Art, Art History & Design would like to invite you to a special photography event taking place in the Snite Museum on Monday February 11, 2013. In conjunction with the current Snite exhibition of 20 x 24 Polaroid images by Jennifer Trausch, Chuck Loving (Snite Director) and Professor Richard Gray have arranged for this famous camera system to be on campus for an all-day workshop featuring shots designed by photography students. The Mestovic Gallery in the museum will be converted into a lighting studio for the day.
This is one of the most celebrated camera systems within the history of 20th century photography, produced and operated by arguably the most innovative, imaginative and philanthropic photographic company in the world. The Polaroid 20×24 camera was built in the late 1970’s and named for the dimensions of their one-of-a-kind prints that measure 20 by 24 inches. There are only five of these cameras in existence. The 20 x 24 Studio has been used by some of the most famous artists of our time including Chuck Close, Julian Schnabel, William Wegman, Mary Ellen Mark and Lucas Samaras. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students and faculty to witness and experience 20 x 24 Polaroid photography.
